Though under heavy guard, Wyrren investigates the crimes of her uncle's court. She'd hoped to find something that could be put to her father's advantage. What she discovers leads to a missing city order, a plague, and a secret that someone in the king's favor means to keep buried.
The king is bent on using his niece to his best advantage, his city unstable, his noblemen corrupt. Wyrren will need to fight her uncle's court with everything she has: three bodyguards posing as maids, a high-ranking slave, a classical education, a specialty in a non-combative magic, and whoever is daring enough to stand beside her.
